Just plain tired.
Women are being called to wear so many hats these days.
Parent, entrepreneur, employee, friend, sister, daughter, cook, housekeeper, chauffeur, Spiritual guide . . . and the list keeps going.
With so many “hats” it is easy to feel overwhelmed.
Also, I run a full time non-profit community theater which is a 60+ hour a week job. And I write full time at The Felicity Bee all while being a single-homeschooling mom.
I get being overwhelmed.
When we are overwhelmed, we are unable to see things clearly – as they are.
Small tasks can seem monumental.
Just yesterday, I will in the middle of getting ready for work after teaching my son in school. I was half-dressed, hair a mess, I couldn’t get the lunches ready fast enough, my dog had to go for a walk, the bed’s weren’t made, and dirty breakfast dishes were in the sink.
It was just one of those mornings.
My seven year old son asked me to tie his shoe and I just cried. I stood there and cried. I felt so inadequate and so overwhelmed. He looked at me like I had three heads.
This wasn’t my proudest “mom-moment” but it was a moment I think we can all relate to.
Being overwhelmed causes us to not think clearly, to become irritable, and to be less than God desires us to be.
I also believe that it is the enemies playground. When our strength is low, our mind isn’t clear, and we are busy with busy, the enemy plays games with our thoughts and emotions.
“You aren’t a good mother…look, you can’t even tie a shoe.” or “You are exhausted tonight. Don’t write that new blog post. These women don’t need your encouragement tonight. You’ve got to take care of you first.”
Do those sound familiar?
The enemy loves to use our weakness to derail us from God’s perfect will.
But the good news is, The Lord has already given us the tools to defeat the voice of the enemy and to defeat being overwhelmed. He has given us His word.
If you are feeling overwhelmed today, here are 10 scriptures for the overwhelmed woman that will strengthen you and get you back on track and that will help you see the importance of your life as a Woman of God!
10 Scriptures for the Overwhelmed Woman
“Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things.”
Don’t think about the huge list of things you need to accomplish with a negative mindset. It will bring you to exhaustion.
Change your thinking and start to see your daily tasks as opportunities. “I am blessed to be able to drive my child from point A to point B and back again because this is the child I prayed for. This is the child I desired.”
Think on lovely things and not the tasks ahead of you and the things that make you overwhelmed will melt into blessings.
“Finally, be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power. Put on the full armor of God, so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes. For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms.”
Is your armor on today?
When you wake up each morning, before you even get out of bed, you have to put your armor on.
I have my word in my heart – the sword of the spirit. I have the helmet of salvation allowing me to only have thoughts that are pure and noble. I have my feet dressed in peace. Is your armor on today?
“Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.”
Our Savior – your Father – takes care of the birds of the air, the lilies of the field, the smallest grain of sand and the tiniest leaves on the trees – how much more does He care for you?
Do not worry about tomorrow, the next week, the next month, the next year – trust that The Lord has it and is already there making a way for you.
“Search me, God, and know my heart; test me and know my anxious thoughts. See if there is any offensive way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting.”
Lord, I pray that you search us today and know us. Create in us a clean heart and remove anything that is not of You. Any burden, any thought, any task that is not You, I pray that we have the strength to let it go as You lead us into everlasting light.
1 John 4:18
“There is no fear in love. But perfect love drives out fear, because fear has to do with punishment. The one who fears is not made perfect in love.”
When my little boy came to me about His shoe, I should have answered him out of a heart of love instead of an overwhelmed heart. When the tasks in front of you are fueled with love, the desire to accomplish them doesn’t seem so overwhelming.
“You are my refuge and my shield; I have put my hope in your word.”
When we are overwhelmed His Word is our hope and our guide.
Open the Word when you feel you can’t go on.
Go into your bedroom, your bathroom, your War Room and find a minute of alone time with The Lord. He will re-align your path and give you a hope.
“For I am the Lord your God who takes hold of your right hand and says to you, Do not fear; I will help you.”
Wherever you are, He is your help. He is your holding you up.
He is giving you faith so you can get rid of the fear of not being able to do it all.
You can do it all . . . in His strength.
“I will never leave you nor forsake you.”
“God I can’t do it.” – I will never leave you.
“God, where you are you in all of this “busy”? – I will never leave you.
“Do you even care that I am exhausted?” – I will never leave you.
Rest on Him when you are overwhelmed. He is right there . . . waiting.
“Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up.”
Keep going. Don’t give up. You will reap a harvest for your good works.
Your children will rise and call you blessed. Your husband will praise you in the streets. (Proverbs 31).
Whatever you do . . . don’t get weary. Your reward will be great!
“From the end of the earth will I cry unto thee, when my heart is overwhelmed: lead me to the rock that is higher than I.”
When you feel like you just can’t go on . . . call to Him and He will answer you.
He will be your rock. He will be your strength.

Remember that our God is there to supply all our needs. He is our strong tower and our strength. It is not by our might that we can accomplish our daily tasks . . . it is by His might.
