Today I went to church…covered. I attend a regular run-of-the-mill Bible-based church. It’s probably a LOT like the one you are going to. We have children’s ministry, AWANAS and life groups. Most of my friends from church get on Facebook and watch Hunger Games. We drink wine and coffee…and maybe a few cuss words slip out of our mouths (or maybe that’s just me…I promise I don’t try to make it a habit).
But as far as I know I am the only covered woman at church. Maybe the lady I met today is a “secret coverer”…jury is still out on her.
A older gentleman approached me today and said, “You look very beautiful. Very unique.” He was referencing my infinity scarf covering. Maybe he hankered for yesteryears or maybe he just enjoyed seeing someone looking different…I dunno. Either way, I was encouraged in my covering.
Today’s beginning head covering lesson comes from that place of looking and feeling beautiful while covered.
So many times women I interact with ask questions like:
- Can I wear makeup while wearing a head covering?
- Is it wrong to style your hair when you are covered?
- Can you be fashionable while covering?
Lesson 101: You can Be beautiful and covered at the same time.
There is NO reason to feel ugly when you are covering.
- Modesty DOES NOT EQUAL ugly/plain/drab.
- Ugly/plain/drab DOES NOT EQUAL holiness.
Do not be fooled into thinking that if you look beautiful that somehow God is not pleased With you.
Nothing could be further from the truth. God made you. He is beautiful. You are made in his likeness, therefore YOU are beautiful. Do not feel like you need to make efforts to overly subtract from your beauty, just as you do not need to make efforts to overly emphasize your beauty.
Obviously, we need to consider covering our beauty when it is too distracting…but let’s face it, most of us stay-at-home-mommies need to amp it up a little – getting out of our yoga pants and ponytails and stained t-shirts. Just dont’ overdo it!
But seriously, you can be beautiful AND covered at the same time. I promise.
